Dearest Mikaela Rae,
You just turned two almost three weeks ago. TWO! Time flies! And everyday you still bring the same amount of sunshine you first did when you came into this world. When I look at you full of life and twinkle in your eyes, it makes me want to protect you from the world you will come to know– one that will lift you up but will also hurt you. I want to prepare you for the latter but for now let’s enjoy how you you are slowly coming to get to know this life.
In the first two years, we’ve had quite a lot of adventures together already and you’ve been a trooper in all of them. Once during our trip on our flight from Amsterdam to Prague, your daddy asked me: “Are we being selfish to drag her on this trip with us even though we know it will tire out her little body?”. I looked out the window and saw Prague from above and felt a sliver of regret that we did go on this trip and how it would affect you physically. “No, this will be good for her to lay the foundation of her life experiences. She won’t remember this trip and the places she has seen but it will shape out an adventurer out of her.” I said this with conviction not allowing that doubt to settle in my mind. I know a lot of parents who bring their children to trips. I’m a living example because growing up as a little girl, Mama and Papa used to bring us to a lot of trips. We traveled well and they were the happiest memories I have of my parents and of growing up. As a result of moving around a lot and traveling, I’ve come to know to know this world as my playground. I hope our adventures will instill the same in you.
Don’t be afraid. The world is your playground and here, all your dreams can come true if you are brave enough to wander out of your comfort zone.
